TMJ & Sleep Apnea Center

San Marcos, California

Our TMJ dentist and staff welcome you to TMJ & Sleep Apnea Center located in San Marcos, California.
We have been helping patients suffering from headaches, sleep apnea, and jaw pain since 2004. And we will do our best for you as well.

All dentists are trained in treating the teeth and the gums. But less than 10% of dentists practicing in the United States have the necessary training and knowledge to correctly diagnose and treat these disorders. And that is because these disorders and their treatment are not taught to dental students during their course of dental school education. Our TMJ dentist, Sonny Eslampour DDS has had countless hours of education and training in diagnosing and treating these conditions.

TMJ Dentist – Treating Facial Pain

Pain in the head and neck area that is not coming from the teeth (e.g. impacted wisdom teeth, an infected tooth, fractured teeth, etc.) can be due to problems with the jaw joint itself. This is one of many conditions collectively referred to as TMJ or TMD.
Jaw pain can also stem from the jaw muscles rather than the joint itself. Another type of jaw pain has its origin in the nerves rather than the supporting structures. To successfully treat jaw pain, our doctor treats the cause and not just the symptoms.

Sleep Apnea Therapy – CPAP Alternative

Sleep apnea is a life-threatening medical condition and should be taken quite seriously. It affects children and adults. Gone untreated sleep apnea leads to serious medical consequences. Sleep apnea also disrupts the important “sleep cycle”. This incomplete sleep cycle leads to “brain fog” and that is because the brain is not fully rested. In children sleep apnea has been linked to ADD. In adults, sleep apnea has led to serious work-related accidents as well as an overall reduction in performance and productivity. Medical doctors treat this condition with CPAP. However, most patients discontinue using their CPAP because of how cumbersome it is. Treatment with oral appliances has been very successful for these patients.

Ready for a better CPAP alternative option

Migraines – Tension Headaches

Headaches wreak havoc on the mind and the body. They can be due to the presence or absence of chemicals or substances. Any coffee drinker can vouch for the headache after 24 hours of no caffeine! Poor diet is another reason we get headaches. There are also headaches that are less well understood. Of these, migraines and cluster headaches are the hardest to treat. Tension headaches are the most common and thankfully most treatable. In treating headaches it is important to realize that for some there is no known cure and treatment is directed at managing the symptoms. Curiously though, a common finding in most headache sufferers is that they also experience jaw pain.

I have had a lot of dental work over the course of my life, so I know the difference between good dental care and exceptional care. Dr. Eslampour and his assistant are consistently professional, thorough, and easy to work with. I was experiencing jaw pain on/off that had become worse over time, and it was affecting me day and night. I clench my teeth and jaws at night when I sleep, and though I had tried other appliances to prevent it, my problems were getting worse. Dr. E. listened to all of my symptoms and concerns, and he fitted me with a custom device that I wear every night. A year later, my jaw issues are significantly improved, and I am so grateful for his care and excellent treatment of my problem. I have returned a few times for adjustments, and each time, Dr. E. takes a full assessment of how I'm doing. I feel he truly wants me to improve and remain improved. I highly recommend Dr. E. for any of your dental concerns - specifically for jaw and/or TMJ problems. He is the best!

I have struggled with TMJ pain since I was in high school. My jaw constantly clicked when I would eat and would sometimes feel like it was dislocating and I couldn't put my teeth together. I went to Dr. Eslampour after my mom recommended him and I am so happy I did! He listened to all of my symptoms and made me feel so comfortable. Throughout the whole process, he was most concerned with my pain level. He always made sure I felt as comfortable as possible and would even encourage me to call in before my next scheduled appointment if things were hurting. I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Eslampour and his staff!

I came here in 2017 because I had just been told I had TMJ and my range of motion was terrible. I was in so much pain and didn't know what to do or how to help myself. Dr. Sonnie and his staff were excellent. They were friendly, helpful and took the time to thoroughly explain what was happening and what the next steps were. Two years later and I still drive the 45 minutes to get to their office because the customer service and personal touch is amazing. I would highly recommend this office and am so grateful for all their help over the last 2 years. -Rashelle Cultrera

If you are suffering from TMJ, I would highly recommend Dr. Eslampour for treatment. He spent two hours with me during my initial consultation, discussing all of my symptoms, performing a thorough exam including imaging, then taking me me through each aspect of my concerns and the possible resolution options. I was afforded every opportunity to ask questions. Once I agreed on a treatment plan, Dr. Eslampour continued to show great care in making sure my appliance fit perfectly, constantly referring back to my initial concerns to make sure things were progressing as they should. Less than six months later and I am on my way to being 100 percent pain free! I would highly recommend him!
